On July 29, 2026, through Exempt Resolution No. 4,225/2026 (“Resolution”), the Ministry of the Environment (“Ministry”) extended by six months the deadline to prepare the draft supreme decree setting collection and valorization targets and other associated obligations for batteries (“Proposal”). The extension runs from the expiration of the then-current deadline on July 29, 2026, and therefore extends the new deadline to January 29, 2027.
The extension is based on the volume and complexity of the materials to be reviewed: 451 comments were submitted during the public consultation and the Ministry received an additional 33 international inquiries.
According to the Resolution, the Ministry must technically and legally analyze and assess each comment, determine whether the Proposal should be amended, prepare the corresponding responses, and draft the supreme decree, which must then be reviewed by the Ministry’s Legal Division.
