By means of Exempt Resolution No. 594 dated April 7, 2025 (the ‘Resolution‘), the Superintendency of the Environment (‘the SMA’) established the environmental inspection program for the management systems governed by Law No. 20,920, which sets forth the framework for waste management, extended producer responsibility, and the promotion of recycling for the year 2025 (the ‘Program‘).
The Resolution specifies that in 2025, the authority will conduct 7 environmental inspections directly.
This is part of the SMA’s mandate to monitor compliance with collection and recovery targets for waste from priority products, particularly end-of-life tires and containers/packaging.
This program aligns with the pillars of the environmental compliance strategy established for this year: strengthening environmental inspections and enhancing responses to complaints.
However, the Resolution also states that the SMA may carry out unscheduled environmental inspections in cases of complaints, self-reported violations admitted for processing, provisional or urgent/transitory measures, or any other circumstances suggesting potential non-compliance or infractions under the SMA’s jurisdiction.
The Program’s timeline aligns with the fiscal year, running from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
